Samsung supplies auto chips for BMW iX3 EV: sources
Samsung Electronics has supplied automotive processors to BMW for its new iX3 electric vehicle, according to industry sources.
The South Korean tech firm provided Exynos Auto V720 chips for the BMW iX3, a midsize electric SUV built on the Neue Klasse platform.
The iX3 was introduced in September and is set for release in South Korea in the second half of 2026.
Sources said Samsung is expected to supply Exynos chips for other next-generation BMW EVs and conventional models in the future.
The Exynos Auto series is used in in-vehicle infotainment systems.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Why Samsung Exynos Auto V720 in BMW iX3 matters
- Through September 2025, BMW delivered 1,795,734 vehicles, with electrified models at 26.2% of sales 1. The iX3 launches the Neue Klasse platform with production in Debrecen, Hungary and US deliveries starting summer 2026 2.
- Neue Klasse scales to 40 new or updated models by 2027, including the i3 sports sedan and an electric M3 2. Industry sources say Samsung’s design win (a supplier securing a component slot in a vehicle program) could extend beyond the iX3, while BMW uses a technology neutral plan with gasoline, hybrid and electric powertrains 3.
BMW OS 9 on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Panoramic iDrive for developers
- BMW Operating System 9 runs on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) with an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud setup that virtualizes the infotainment system, which is the car’s entertainment and information software 45. The iX3 has a 17.9 inch center screen that supports video streaming and gaming when parked 6.
- Streaming and app teams get a new path with the move to AOSP, which differs from the prior Linux based OS 8 4. BMW builds apps and the user interface (UI) in a BMW specific way, so access will likely be curated instead of open Android store access 4.
