Samsung, SK hynix may outline $212b payouts: reports

Analysts expect Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to outline new shareholder return plans as early as this month, with combined payouts that could reach 300 trillion won, or about US$212 billion, after a rebound in chip earnings.

Under their current shareholder return frameworks, both companies have said they will return 50% of free cash flow to shareholders.

Samsung’s 2024-26 policy covers half of free cash flow, while SK hynix plans to allocate 50% of free cash flow generated from 2025 through 2027.

Market estimates suggest Samsung could distribute as much as 200 trillion won (US$142 billion), and SK hynix up to 100 trillion won (US$71 billion).

Samsung and SK hynix together account for more than half of the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) by market value.

Analysts expect larger payouts to also support the broader South Korean stock market.
