Samsung said on September 23 that it had signed contracts with KT and SK Telecom for AI radio access network projects under South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology’s Hyper AI Network initiative.

The work will begin in October 2026 and use private 5G Standalone networks at industrial sites to test technologies that Samsung and other telecom companies see as a step toward 6G.

KT will run trials at HD Hyundai Samho’s Yeongam Shipyard.

There, robots for welding, painting, and telecom facility operations will use Samsung’s edge AI and network automation software.

SK Telecom will test an autonomous patrol robot and closed-circuit television monitoring at SK Incheon Petrochem.

AI-RAN generally integrates AI more deeply into the radio access network than conventional radio access networks.

Samsung has described the technology as part of a broader roadmap for AI-powered networks beyond AI-RAN.

Samsung said it was the sole global vendor for KT’s project and the main vendor for SK Telecom’s.

It did not say the ministry had selected Samsung directly. The projects are part of the government’s Hyper AI Network initiative.
