Samsung set to report $56b Q2 profit
Samsung Electronics is expected to report on July 8 that second-quarter operating profit rose to 86 trillion won (US$56.35 billion) from 4.7 trillion won (US$3.07 billion) a year earlier, based on an LSEG SmartEstimate from 30 analysts.
The increase would reflect tight memory supply and higher chip prices driven by AI demand.
The outlook follows a first quarter in which Samsung’s semiconductor division generated 53.7 trillion won (US$35.13 billion) in operating profit, compared with 2.8 trillion won (US$1.82 billion) for its mobile and networks division.
Samsung also said its memory business posted record quarterly revenue and profit, and began mass sales of HBM4 and SOCAMM2 memory products for Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform.
TrendForce projected that second-quarter conventional dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) prices would rise 58%-63% quarter on quarter.
It also forecast NAND flash prices 70%-75%, driven by demand from AI servers and data centers.
Some forecasts said HBM shortages could persist into 2027. Samsung also said foundry earnings declined in the first quarter.
