Samsung SDS and LG CNS are expanding AI data center projects in South Korea and Indonesia to meet demand for AI computing.

Samsung SDS, Samsung Group’s IT services arm based in South Korea, said it has begun construction of its Gumi center in North Gyeongsang, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028.

The facility will start with 60 megawatts of power capacity and can expand to 120 megawatts based on demand. It will use hybrid air and water cooling for graphics processing unit servers.

LG CNS, an IT services company based in South Korea, said it has completed a 30-megawatt AI data center for a client in Jakarta.

The company said it had secured customers for the facility’s full capacity before completion. Total capacity is expected to reach 400 megawatts in later phases.

Both companies plan to move from data center construction into AI infrastructure operations and services.

LG CNS plans further expansion across Asia-Pacific, while Samsung SDS plans to offer colocation services at the Gumi facility.

Market reports show South Korea’s data center sector is expanding, while studies on Indonesia point to continued growth there.
