Samsung SDI signs $1.4b US battery deal for storage systems
Samsung SDI said its US unit has signed a deal worth over US$1.4 billion to supply lithium iron phosphate batteries for energy storage systems to an unnamed US customer.
Deliveries under the contract will start in 2027 and continue for three years.
The company said the batteries will be produced by converting existing lines at its US plant.
Samsung SDI, a South Korean battery maker, has been shifting some EV battery production to energy storage systems in response to changing demand in the US.
The firm is also jointly building and operating an EV battery plant with Stellantis to serve the US market.
