Samsung Electronics is rolling out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to all employees in South Korea and all employees worldwide in its Device eXperience (DX) division, OpenAI said.

The tools will be used across various developments.

The move marks a shift from 2023, when Samsung banned use of ChatGPT and other generative AI tools on company devices and networks. The ban was originally triggered after sensitive source code was uploaded to the service.

Samsung’s DX unit covers the company’s display, mobile, and home appliance businesses. The policy change does not apply across the company.

Samsung’s semiconductor Device Solutions division still faces tighter limits on external AI tools. Those employees were previously restricted to Samsung’s in-house Gauss model because of security concerns.

OpenAI said ChatGPT Enterprise includes data protection, user and access management, and security controls.
