Samsung readies Exynos 2700 to cut reliance on Qualcomm
Samsung aims to complete production-ready samples of the Exynos 2700 between May and June as it seeks to expand the use of its own processors in future Galaxy devices and cut reliance on Qualcomm, industry sources said.
The Exynos 2700’s design was completed late last year and has since entered sample production and could power a significant portion of the Galaxy S27 lineup.
Delays with previous Exynos chips forced Samsung to rely entirely on Qualcomm for 2025 Galaxy devices.
Samsung plans to build the 2700 on its second-generation 2nm node called SF2P and to refine packaging to improve heat management.
Samsung spent 11 trillion won on external processors last year, highlighting the push for in-house Exynos chips.
Analyst estimates Exynos 2700 could comprise half of Galaxy S27 chips if yields hold.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Samsung’s 2nm chip is defined by specific performance and design claims
- A second-generation 2nm node called SF2P reportedly brings a 12% performance uplift, a 25% cut in power use, and an 8% smaller area versus the first-generation version 1.
- Packaging tweaks focus on cooler operation through a method described as “side by side” (Sb), which lays chip dies next to each other instead of stacking them 1.
- The platform lines up with upcoming standards that include LPDDR6 RAM (a forthcoming mobile memory standard) and UFS 5.0 storage (a next-generation phone storage standard), though final Galaxy S27 support remains unconfirmed 1.
- The chip is rumored to use an “Xclipse 970” GPU (the phone chip’s graphics processor). Some reports suggest a shift from a modified RDNA 4 setup (an AMD GPU architecture) toward RDNA 5, while other reporting says a fully custom Samsung GPU may come later 1.
This chip’s success is a test for Samsung’s foundry plans and non-memory profit goals
- Cutting reliance on Qualcomm also supports Samsung’s internal sales flow, since the Mobile Experience unit (the smartphone business) buys Exynos chipsets from Samsung’s System LSI division (the in-house chip design arm) 2.
- DigiTimes puts mass production in Q4 2026, with about 163 billion won (about $112.84 million) in operating profit tied to Samsung’s non-memory business 2.
- A solid SF2P rollout would help Samsung’s foundry business (its contract chip-manufacturing operation) compete, with first-generation 2nm gate-all-around (GAA) yields reported around 50% 2.
