Samsung India workers end strike after 37 days

Samsung India Electronics Ltd employees at the Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai have ended their indefinite strike that began on 9 September.

A meeting facilitated by the Tamil Nadu government led to an agreement enabling around 1,100 workers to return to their jobs without the fear of retaliation.

The workers had struck over key demands: wage increases, better working conditions, and official recognition for the Samsung India Workers Union, affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

The agreement to end the strike was reached during a meeting at the Department of Labour Welfare’s office in Chennai, attended by representatives from both Samsung management and the striking workers.
