Samsung exec: AI will reshape every aspect of life
Won-Joon Choi, chief operating officer of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience Business, said the AI revolution is “unavoidable” and will affect every aspect of human life.
He said organizations beyond IT such as medicine, law, and HR must prepare for widespread change.
Choi acknowledged large tech investments in AI and said the technology is still at an early stage.
He said AI features may feel overwhelming now but will become integrated into devices and user interfaces over time.
Samsung said it plans to bring AI features to 800 million devices by the end of this year, up from 400 million devices last year.
The company said it has adopted a hybrid model that combines on-device processing with cloud services and is open to third-party solutions, noting a partnership with Perplexity and referencing Gemini.
Samsung said sensitive data will be stored on devices, not in the cloud, to protect privacy. It plans to expand local language support and partner on agentic AI features.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Samsung’s strategy responds to AI confusion
- Samsung says many phone owners already use AI but often do not recognize it, which shapes its product plans 1.
- A company survey reports 90% of Americans use some kind of AI on their phones, yet only 38% knew it 1.
- Separate polling found 85% of mobile users call AI too complex to get the most from it, while 81% still see practical value 2.
- That gap supports Samsung’s push for “ambient AI,” which places AI features in the background instead of a separate app 1.
- The approach mixes on-device AI for private tasks like “Live Translate” voice calls with cloud options through Perplexity (an AI-powered search and answer engine) and Gemini (Google’s AI model and assistant brand) 3.
Samsung is shaping its operating system (OS) around multiple AI agents
- Samsung is building a “multi-agent ecosystem,” which it frames as a way to stand apart from Apple and Google 4.
- Rather than steering everyone to one assistant, the plan offers several deeply integrated agents inside the OS 4.
- Galaxy S26 owners can call Perplexity with “hey, Plex,” and it can use Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar plus some third-party apps that Samsung has not named 4.
- This turns the phone into a platform where AI providers compete for preference, similar to picking a default web browser.
- The shift may pressure startups and larger firms like Google to fight for default assistant placement if Samsung follows reported talks about making Perplexity the default assistant 5.
