Samsung Electronics Q2 profit seen soaring on AI memory

Samsung Electronics is forecast to post 165.5 trillion won (US$109 billion) in April–June revenue and 85.3 trillion won (US$56.3 billion) in operating profit, according to FnGuide consensus estimates.

The outlook reflects strong AI-driven memory demand and rising chip prices, while union members continue voting on a tentative wage agreement through May 2.

The original report said the year-on-year profit jump partly reflected a weak base.

Broader industry data also pointed to a continued upcycle in the memory market.

Market researcher TrendForce forecast sharp quarter-on-quarter increases in conventional DRAM and NAND flash contract prices.

The gains are being driven by chipmakers shifting production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server memory products.

At the same time, cloud service providers are securing supply through longer-term agreements, further tightening availability in the broader memory market.

The original report said heavy AI infrastructure spending boosted demand across Samsung’s memory product line, not just HBM.

If union members reject the tentative wage deal, Samsung would become eligible for strike action again.
