Samsung Electronics said in Seoul on July 21 that it will set up a robotics division reporting directly to its chief executive to speed development and commercialisation, and make robotics a new growth area.

The RX division, short for Robotics eXperience, will oversee Samsung’s mid- to long-term robotics strategy, core technology development, and business execution.

Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun will lead the Robotics Strategy Team.

The move builds on Samsung’s earlier robotics push, including a 14.7% stake in Rainbow Robotics in 2023 and a later decision to raise that holding to 35%, making Samsung the company’s largest shareholder and turning Rainbow Robotics into a subsidiary.

Samsung also said it plans to set up robotics research hubs in the US, China, and Japan.

Earlier this year, Samsung said it aimed for “tangible” humanoid robotics results in 2026 and would consider investments and acquisitions where needed.

It plans to deploy humanoid robots first at manufacturing sites before expanding to homes and retail.
