Samsung Electronics signs $16.5b chip-supply deal

Samsung Electronics has signed a US$16.5 billion semiconductor supply contract, according to a regulatory filing released on July 28.

The agreement starts on July 26, 2024, and runs until December 31, 2033.

The counterparty’s name remains undisclosed to protect trade secrets, and contract details will stay confidential until the end of 2033.

Samsung warned that the agreement allows for potential changes or termination.

Its shares rose over 2% following the announcement.

Samsung is the world’s second-largest provider of semiconductor foundry services, behind TSMC.
