Samsung Electro-Mechanics signs $990m AI deal
Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on May 20 it signed a 1.5 trillion won (US$990 million) contract to supply silicon capacitors for AI infrastructure.
The parts are used in AI server semiconductors, including GPUs and high bandwidth memory, to improve power supply stability.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics said silicon capacitors have more than 100 times lower resistance than multilayer ceramic capacitors, which can reduce signal loss in high-performance chips.
The company said it plans to expand sales of the parts into other high-performance computing markets, including autonomous driving systems and mobile devices.
