Samsung Electro-Mechanics signs $204m AI server deal
Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a South Korean electronic components maker, said on July 23 that it signed a 300 billion won (US$204 million) contract with an unnamed global customer.
The agreement covers the supply of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for AI servers from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2027.
It is the company’s second disclosed AI server MLCC order in less than a month.
After a 450 billion won (US$306 million) deal announced on June 30, its disclosed 2027 supply contracts now total 750 billion won (US$510 million).
The orders build on a business in which Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ Component Solution unit, which focuses on MLCCs, posted 1.3 trillion won (US$898 million) in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The company said it had about 40% of the global AI server MLCC market, though it did not claim leadership over Murata.
The contract sizes reflect how many MLCCs AI servers need.
According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a single AI server rack can use up to 600,000 MLCCs, more than 10x the number used in a conventional server rack.
Demand also appears broader than one supplier, with Murata forecasting AI data center-related sales up 84% this fiscal year.
