Samsung builds robot vacuum ecosystem to take on China brands

Samsung Electronics announced plans to develop a comprehensive ecosystem for its robot vacuums to compete in South Korea’s market dominated by Chinese brands like Roborock.

During a briefing, executive vice president Lim Seong-taek highlighted the company’s shift towards a system-focused approach beyond just product sales.

The company introduced the Bespoke AI Steam, its second-generation robot vacuum, featuring AI-based space recognition and upgraded cleaning functions such as AI liquid detection and threshold-crossing EasyPass wheels.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Samsung wants a profitable spot in a fast-growing market

  • South Korea’s robot vacuum battle sits inside a global market expected to hit $17.08 billion by 2028 1.
  • Chinese brands such as Roborock and Ecovacs have ramped up rivalry worldwide, fueling price cuts plus lookalike products, per a market-research report 2.
  • Samsung seems set on sidestepping a race to the bottom by leaning premium. The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo sells for $1,699, while the company has not shared Bespoke AI Steam pricing, per Tom’s Guide 3.
  • Winning may hinge on building “technological barriers” like AI-powered cleaning, instead of relying on mass-market pricing alone 2.

A vacuum that ties into Samsung’s AI home plan

  • The Bespoke AI Steam supports Samsung’s “Companion to AI Living” approach plus SmartThings, which Samsung said reached more than 430 million users as of December 2025 4.
  • For South Korea, Samsung says it adds AI-based space recognition, an AI-powered RGB camera sensor, and an infrared LED. It also uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) so images and videos captured by the robot cleaner stay on the device 5.
  • Samsung promotes Knox security for robot vacuums. Separately, UL Solutions gives “Diamond” verification to certain products. Tom’s Guide writes the Bespoke Jet Bot series has a top “Diamond” security rating based on UL’s independent evaluation 3.
  • By adding security and monitoring-style tools to a cleaner, Samsung aims for a multi-use hub that hardware-only rivals struggle to match 4.
