Samsung, Barclays to launch first US credit card
Samsung Electronics America and Barclays are launching the Samsung Galaxy Card in the US, which they said is Samsung’s first credit card program in the country.
Applications open on July 22 on Samsung.com in the US, and the Visa card is added directly to Samsung Wallet.
The no-annual-fee card offers 5% cash rewards on purchases made directly from Samsung in the US, 3% on purchases made with Samsung Wallet, 2% on streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify, and 1% on other purchases.
New qualifying cardholders can earn US$200 in cash rewards after spending US$2,000 within the first 90 days. They can also get a 20% discount on Samsung VIP Advantage when they use the card to buy or renew the membership.
Before this launch, Samsung in the US offered financing, lease-to-own, and buy now, pay later options instead of a network-branded credit card.
Barclays, a bank headquartered in the UK with a US consumer banking business, said it ranks ninth among US card issuers, with 20 million customers and co-branded programs for brands including JetBlue, Gap, Wyndham, and Xbox.
