Samsung affiliates to invest $1b in KKR’s Helix
Six Samsung affiliates said on September 29 that they would invest US$1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a company KKR launched in June to build AI data centers and related power assets.
They join KKR, Nvidia, Kuwait Investment Authority, and US power company Vistra as founding investors.
KKR said Helix will focus on hyperscale data centers with secured power for cloud and AI workloads.
Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, and Samsung SDI have businesses spanning chips, cooling, construction, IT services, and backup batteries used in AI data centers.
Helix is led by former Amazon Web Services chief executive Adam Selipsky.
Samsung did not disclose how the six affiliates would split the commitment or whether the investment is structured solely as equity.
A Deloitte analysis found that grid constraints and interconnection queues are pushing some AI data center developers toward paired power solutions. Vistra also joined Helix as a preferred power partner.
