Samsung to acquire US digital healthcare firm Xealth

Samsung Electronics has acquired Xealth, a United States-based digital healthcare platform, to enhance its connected care services in the United States.

The agreement, pending regulatory approvals, is expected to be finalized by the end of the year, though financial details were not disclosed.

Xealth, founded in 2016, was developed from Providence’s health care system.

It partners with over 70 digital health solution providers and more than 500 hospitals, including Advocate Health and Banner Health.

This acquisition will enable Xealth to use Samsung’s platform to improve connected care services.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Tech giants are racing to secure their place in the $330 billion digital health market

Samsung’s acquisition of Xealth follows a clear pattern of major technology companies strategically entering healthcare through platform acquisitions.

This move mirrors Amazon’s acquisition of Health Navigator in 2019 to enhance its Amazon Care service and Philips’ purchase of patient tracking company Medumo that same year 1.

The digital health market is projected to grow from $150 billion in 2020 to $330 billion by 2025, driven by aging populations and the expansion of telemedicine 2.

By acquiring Xealth’s network of over 500 hospitals and 70+ digital health solutions, Samsung gains immediate scale in the healthcare sector rather than building these relationships from scratch.

This acquisition approach allows tech companies to quickly overcome healthcare’s high regulatory barriers and complex stakeholder relationships that would otherwise take years to develop internally.

2️⃣ Integration platforms are solving healthcare’s fragmentation problem

The healthcare integration market specifically is projected to grow from $3.9 billion in 2021 to $7.1 billion by 2026 at a CAGR of 12.4%, highlighting the urgent need for solutions like Xealth 3.

Xealth’s platform directly addresses a fundamental healthcare challenge: the fragmentation of patient data across multiple systems, devices, and organizations that prevents coordinated care.
