Sam Altman-backed ID app World adds crypto, chat features
World, the biometric ID verification project co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched an updated version of its app with new features, including encrypted chat and expanded cryptocurrency payment options.
The startup, created by Tools for Humanity in 2019 and originally launched in 2023, seeks to provide digital tools that help distinguish humans from bots.
The app’s new messenger, World Chat, uses end-to-end encryption, and shows whether a user is verified by World’s system through color-coded speech bubbles.
The updated digital wallet now lets users send and receive cryptocurrency, receive paychecks, and deposit funds from bank accounts, with conversion to cryptocurrency available even for unverified users.
World’s verification process requires users to scan their irises using a device called the Orb, generating a digital ID.
