Salesforce, Workday expand global hiring to cut costs
Software companies like Salesforce and Workday are increasingly hiring internationally to invest in AI while maintaining profits.
This trend highlights a broader industry movement toward cost-saving measures in the face of technological advancements.
Salesforce reduced its US-based workforce from 58% in 2020 to 51% in January 2024, announcing 8,000 job cuts in early 2023 and more than 1,000 layoffs this week for AI-related roles.
Workday also cut about 1,750 jobs on Feb. 5, focusing on international markets like Costa Rica to save costs.
Other tech companies, including PayPal, ServiceNow, and Synopsys, have similarly experienced a decline in US-based staff.
PayPal’s US workforce shrank from 53% in 2018 to 38% by the end of 2023.
Meanwhile, Microsoft and Oracle still have a significant portion of their workforce abroad.
