Salesforce to invest $15b in SF to advance AI ecosystem
Salesforce will invest US$15 billion in San Francisco, the world’s AI capital, over the next five years to boost AI development, workforce training, and its local operations.
The company, the city’s largest private employer, shared the plans ahead of its annual Dreamforce conference, which is expected to draw nearly 50,000 attendees and generate about US$130 million in local revenue.
Salesforce will open an AI Incubator Hub at its San Francisco campus to support early-stage startups and expand its AI talent pipeline.
The company also announced a new US$39 million pledge to education and healthcare in the Bay Area, bringing its combined donations with the Benioff family to more than US$1 billion.
Salesforce has acquired several Bay Area startups in 2025, including Bluebirds, Waii, and Regrello, and has agreed to buy Informatica.
The company is offering AI-focused upskilling to employees and the broader community through its Trailhead learning platform.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Salesforce’s $15B investment in San Francisco is spread thin across five years and lacks binding details
- $15 billion pledge over five years averages $3 billion a year. The announcement gives no split between capital spending, operating costs like payroll for 76,000 employees, real estate growth or philanthropic grants 1.
- AI Incubator Hub on Salesforce’s campus (a planned on-campus program for early-stage AI startups) and workforce training programs are described without specific funding allocations, timelines or measurable targets 1.
- As San Francisco’s largest private employer, Salesforce does not say how much of the $15 billion is new money versus rebranded ongoing spend and earlier commitments 1.
- Dreamforce timing aligns with the pledge and is expected to deliver $130 million in local revenue, yet the plan includes no details on city tax incentives or other public support 1.
Independent software vendors can capture revenue by building Agentforce-powered solutions for AppExchange
- Independent software vendor (ISV) partners build apps on Salesforce’s platform, including Agentforce-powered solutions. Agentforce is Salesforce’s framework for building AI agents that automate tasks. These partners report sales cycles up to 20% faster and reach over 150,000 Salesforce customers through AppExchange, Salesforce’s app marketplace 2.
- Many build agent actions and templates (prebuilt automations and patterns for AI agents). Examples include content management integrations with Google Workspace and Box or sales insights with Zoom and Moody’s. They can ship these offerings directly through AppExchange for easy customer adoption 3.
- More than 272,000 consultants at partner firms have completed AI certifications and built over 18,000 agents (AI-driven software assistants that perform tasks). These numbers mark strong ecosystem engagement with Agentforce 4.
- A revenue share pricing model offers marginal royalty rates that drop as partner businesses scale. The structure supports margin expansion for ISVs that build Agentforce-compatible apps 2.
