Chamath Palihapitiya said 8090 Labs, an AI coding startup he founded in January 2024, had raised a US$135 million series A led by Salesforce Ventures.

Palihapitiya also said he would now lead the company as CEO.

Other backers included WndrCo, Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Los Angeles-based investment firm, Craft Ventures, The Production Board, Launch, and angel investors including Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo.

8090 Labs said Software Factory is an AI-native platform for regulated enterprises that brings software teams and AI agents into one system with control, visibility, and an audit trail.

The startup targets sectors including healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and government, and also offers a managed enterprise service.

Palihapitiya, whose public profile has centered on Social Capital since leaving Facebook in 2011, said the AI boom prompted his return to a full-time operating role.

The deal also fits Salesforce Ventures’ broader AI push. The investment firm expanded a US$1 billion AI fund focused on secure, trustworthy AI, agents, and integrated workflows.
