Salesforce CEO says AI canโ€™t replace sales staff

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said that AI cannot replace sales staff because the role needs human connection.

He made the comments on a YouTube show, even as Salesforce continues to expand its use of AI and plans to hire up to 5,000 new salespeople this year.

Salesforce, based in San Francisco, currently employs about 76,000 people worldwide.

Earlier this year, Salesforce reduced its customer support team from 9,000 to about 5,000, with AI agents now handling half of all customer interactions.

Benioff said that while AI can automate many tasks, it cannot do everything, especially roles requiring human touch.

The company also moved 500 customer service staff to new roles, a change expected to save US$50 million.
