Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said that AI will enhance workforce productivity rather than lead to mass layoffs of white-collar employees.

He made these remarks during an interview with Atlantic CEO Nicholas Thompson at the 2025 AI for Good Global Summit.

Benioff highlighted that AI, as used at Salesforce, is not expected to result in substantial job losses.

“It is a radical augmentation of the workforce,” he said, addressing concerns within the tech industry about AI’s potential impact on employment.

While some industry leaders, like Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, have suggested that AI could eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, Benioff dismissed these concerns.

“When I’m talking to our customers, I’m not hearing them say they’re laying off people because of AI-driven productivity increases,” he noted.

At Salesforce, Benioff announced a hiring pause for engineers, lawyers, and customer service agents in 2025 to integrate AI-powered productivity gains.

However, he confirmed an increase in sales-related hiring due to rising customer demand for AI deployment. He also predicted growth among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as AI enhances their operational capabilities.
