Salesforce to buy military AI startup Rune for $375m

Salesforce has agreed to buy Rune Technologies, a US defense-tech startup that makes AI software for military logistics, for US$375 million in cash and stock.

The deal would deepen Salesforce’s defense push through Missionforce, its unit serving defense and national security agencies. It would also add Rune software that helps plan, execute, and sustain military operations.

Founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, Rune has raised US$30 million. The startup has also disclosed work with the US Army, including a US$4.1 million contract with the 1st Cavalry Division.

Rune separately received an Army award with a US$99 million ceiling.

Salesforce’s Government Cloud Plus is FedRAMP High-authorized for sensitive federal workloads. The acquisition also comes as the Pentagon explores AI to tackle contested logistics challenges.
