S Korean food delivery app cuts restaurant commission fees

Food delivery platform Baedal Minjok, known as Baemin, announced it will change its commission fee structure, effective Feb. 26, 2025.

The new system lowers commission fees for restaurants on the platform for 9.8% to between 2% and 7.8%.

These changes aim to relieve small businesses facing rising ingredient costs and inflation, following an agreement with the government, delivery platforms and restaurant associations.

The system will affect Baemin 1 Plus subscribers, with delivery fees adjusted based on sales performance.

Restaurants in the lowest sales tier will pay a 2% commission, with delivery fees ranging from 1,900 won (US$1.32) to 2,900 won (US$2.02).

Restaurants in the top 35th percentile will see a commission of 7.8%, with delivery fees between 2,400 won (US$1.67) and 3,400 won (US$2.36).
