S Korean battery maker signs $10b deal to power Nissan EVs

SK On has secured a contract to supply EV batteries to Nissan. This marks the first collaboration between the South Korean battery manufacturer and the Japanese automaker.

The agreement involves SK On’s US subsidiary, SK Battery America, providing 99.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of batteries from 2028 to 2033.

This supply volume is estimated to support the production of approximately 1 million mid-size EVs.

While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, its value is reported to be around US$10 billion. Under the contract, SK On will deliver high-nickel battery cell pouches manufactured in North America to Nissan’s Canton plant in Mississippi.
