S Korea telco firm, Microsoft team up on GPT-4o-based AI

South Korean telecommunications firm KT Corporation has introduced SOTA K, an AI model based on GPT-4o and tailored for the Korean language, through a partnership with Microsoft.

The model is designed to handle Korean nuances, including honorifics, dialects, and terminology across law, finance, and history.

KT said it developed its own dataset to evaluate Korean AI and reported that SOTA K outperformed GPT-4o in comprehension, reasoning, and cultural understanding.

Early use cases include generating customer service scripts for Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance, creating curriculum content for EBS, and processing medical data at Yonsei University Health System.

KT also plans to use SOTA K in its own consumer services before expanding to partner companies.
