S Korea prosecutors raid Coupang unit over severance pay
South Korean special prosecutors raided Coupang Fulfillment Services, a logistics unit of ecommerce firm Coupang, in Seoul on December 23, as part of an investigation into alleged unpaid severance pay.
Authorities suspect the company changed its employment rules in May 2023, potentially disadvantaging employees and withholding severance pay.
The special counsel’s search and seizure warrant reportedly names the company as a suspect under the Act on the Guarantee of Employees’ Retirement Benefits.
In January, the labor ministry referred the case to prosecutors with a recommendation for indictment, but the Bucheon branch of the Incheon District Prosecutors Office did not pursue charges in April.
