Roblox tests AI game creation tool in New Zealand

Roblox said it will launch Build in public alpha on July 28 for age-verified users in New Zealand aged nine and older. The AI feature lets users create basic Roblox games from text prompts on mobile devices.

User can make games without coding. Users aged 16 and older can publish their creations to a global audience.

The company said it will rank AI-generated games by player retention.

Build launches amid wider debate over generative AI in gaming.

A 2026 Game Developers Conference industry report based on responses from more than 2,300 professionals found that 52% believed generative AI had a negative impact on the game industry, while 36% said they used such tools as part of their jobs.
