Roblox expected to contribute $8.2m to Indonesia’s GDP: report
Roblox is projected to contribute over US$8.2 million to Indonesia’s GDP between 2019 and 2024, according to the Roblox Economic Impact Report released on October 13.
The report estimates that the platform’s ecosystem supported 310 jobs in Indonesia in 2024, and that this figure rose by 298% since 2019.
Roblox’s Developer Exchange program was cited as a driver for enabling local creators to earn income by designing and monetizing digital experiences.
The report also said 31% of Indonesian Roblox creators’ revenue came from overseas, with key export markets including the US, Japan, and Malaysia.
Roblox’s active daily user base in Indonesia grew 115% in the past two years.
Indonesia accounted for 41% of mobile game downloads in Southeast Asia, making it the region’s largest market, according to the same report.
The Indonesian government has supported the gaming industry through policies such as Presidential Regulation 19/2024, and initiatives like the Indonesia Game Developer eXchange.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Roblox’s $8.2 million GDP contribution lacks context without methodology details
- An $8.2 million GDP lift for 2019–2024 looks small next to Indonesia’s projected $1.94 billion game market for 2025. That equals under 0.5% of one year’s market over six years.
- The 307% Compound Annual Growth Rate since 2019 lacks baseline and method. Readers need to know if the figure covers direct creator earnings or includes indirect multipliers such as supplier purchases and local consumer spending.
- Only 310 jobs in 2024 need context. Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s largest mobile gaming market with 41% of regional downloads. Roblox still looks niche despite fast percentage gains.
Rising Indonesian creator activity signals demand for structured Roblox training programs
- Professional Roblox creators in Indonesia grew 176% from 2022–2024, and 83% started with minimal game development experience. That suggests demand for structured training.
- Edtech firms and universities can offer Roblox curricula and certifications. Surakarta, also known as Solo, already runs an extracurricular program for 500 students at Solo Technopark (a municipal innovation and training center) 1.
- Software vendors can localize tools for Indonesian teams. 65% report hiring after achieving success, so studios are scaling and need professional development software beyond Roblox’s basic tools.
