Robinhood CEO eyes five-year path for asset tokenization
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev expects major markets to develop frameworks for asset tokenization within five years during a panel at Token2049 in Singapore.
Tenev, whose company operates a US-based trading app, suggested that widespread adoption of tokenization could take a decade or longer, with the US possibly lagging due to its established financial infrastructure.
He added that stablecoins are currently the most basic form of tokenized assets, and predicted that tokenization could eventually become the default way to access US stocks abroad.
Tenev also discussed Robinhood’s prediction markets, noting over US$4.0 billion event contracts have been traded since the platform launched in late 2024.
He acknowledged criticism of prediction markets, highlighting their similarities to sports betting and exchange-traded products.
Robinhood is reportedly in talks with overseas regulators, including the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, to expand its prediction market platform beyond the US.
