Rivian launches second spinoff firm focused on AI, robotics

Rivian has launched Mind Robotics, a new industrial AI and robotics company, marking its second spinoff this year.

The US-based EV maker said Mind Robotics will use industrial AI and Rivian’s operations data to develop robotics solutions for physical businesses.

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe will serve as chairman of Mind Robotics, with Rivian retaining a stake in the company.

Mind Robotics has secured a US$115 million seed round led by venture capital firm Eclipse, whose partner Jiten Behl previously worked at Rivian.

The company has not disclosed details about its specific products or whether Rivian staff will transfer to Mind Robotics.

Earlier this year, Rivian spun out its micromobility unit into a separate startup, Also Inc., which was also backed by Eclipse.

Few details about Mind Robotics are public, aside from a broad trademark application covering machinery, vehicles, and other industrial uses.
