Ripple Prime secures $200m for institutional lending

Ripple Prime has secured a US$200 million financing facility from investment manager Neuberger Berman to expand margin lending for institutional trading in traditional and digital assets.

The platform was formed after Ripple bought prime broker Hidden Road for US$1.25 billion in 2025. Ripple said its revenue has since tripled year on year.

The deal comes as more institutions enter crypto after the Trump administration backed friendlier US rules and firms such as State Street and Standard Chartered unveiled new digital asset plans.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The US$200 million deal is a flexible credit line backed by assets

  • The US$200 million facility lets Ripple Prime draw funds as institutional demand rises, instead of taking all the money at once 1.
  • This staged setup ties lending growth to real activity. That lowers the risk of the leverage-driven failures seen in crypto lending 1.
  • The credit line is backed by Ripple Prime’s existing institutional loan book, so higher client activity can unlock more funding 1.
  • For institutions, the financing supports one margin account across crypto, equities, fixed income plus foreign exchange 1.

Competition is rising in institutional crypto prime brokerage

  • Support from Neuberger Berman, a global investment manager with more than US$560 billion in assets under management, gives Ripple Prime backing from traditional finance 2.
  • Rivalry in crypto prime brokerage is picking up. FalconX (a digital-asset prime brokerage) has secured credit from Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm 3. It is also exploring an initial public offering (IPO) 3.
  • The deal gives crypto-native firms more room to challenge banks such as Standard Chartered. The bank is building institutional crypto services through SC Ventures, the bank’s innovation and investment arm, while facing Basel III, a global bank capital framework, and its capital charges 4.
