Ripple adds AI security checks across XRP Ledger development
Ripple’s engineering team outlined an AI-driven security program that adds machine learning checks across the XRP Ledger’s development process.
The company said the approach includes AI-assisted code scanning for every pull request, automated adversarial testing, and an AI-supported red team to assess how changes perform in real-world conditions.
Ripple said the red team has already identified more than 10 bugs, with lower-severity issues disclosed publicly. More significant protocol updates will require multiple independent audits and expanded bug bounty programs.
Ripple said the next XRP Ledger release will focus only on fixes and improvements, and it plans to publish new security criteria for amendments with the XRPL Foundation in the coming weeks.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Ripple’s AI security push targets network stress and aging code
- The XRP Ledger has run since 2012, carrying technical debt from early design choices and coding patterns that came before modern tools 1.
- Ripple links the security overhaul to a busier network with more complicated workloads, and says older approaches alone no longer cover the risks 2.
- The work supports institutional adoption, including tokenized assets and a payments pilot under the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s BLOOM initiative (a central bank-backed project exploring digital money and payments) 2.
- The effort also tackles structural problems such as limited type safety and uneven interaction patterns between features, with the goal of making behavior more predictable by design 3.
Defending aging software now increasingly involves AI-augmented security
- Ripple uses an AI-assisted red team to simulate attacks, matching a wider move toward proactive, AI-augmented security engineering for complex systems 2.
- The company uses AI-driven tools, including AI-assisted code scanning on pull requests and automated adversarial testing guided by threat models, to find weaknesses earlier instead of waiting to patch after issues appear 2.
- This technical spend has not led to market gains so far, with XRP down about 26% over the last 90 days based on market snapshots cited in coverage 4.
- That drop suggests security upgrades alone may not sway price when market conditions and investor sentiment pull in the other direction 4.
