Retail investors surge into Nvidia amid stock dip
Retail investors bought US$562.2 million in Nvidia shares on Jan. 27, the highest since 2014, according to Vanda Research.
This surge followed a 17% drop in Nvidia’s stock, which lost US$593 billion in market value due to a new low-cost AI model from Chinese firm DeepSeek.
Nvidia’s decline reflects a broader downturn in global technology stocks, which are facing pressure from concerns about valuations and the dominance of established AI companies.
Although tech stocks showed some recovery on Jan. 28, caution remains in the markets.
Despite the recent fluctuations, retail interest in Nvidia has remained strong. In the last quarter, retail investors acquired about US$7.3 billion in Nvidia stocks, roughly half the peak quarterly purchases recorded in September 2024.
