X to replace revenue sharing with original content rewards
X said it will stop accepting new participants for its Revenue Sharing program and replace it with Original Content Rewards, shifting creator payouts toward original posts.
Current Revenue Sharing participants will continue earning through September 7 and can apply for the new program starting September 8.
X said Original Content Rewards will still require an X Premium subscription, at least 500 verified followers, and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over a 90-day period.
The company said eligible content includes original reporting and analysis, photos and videos created by the poster, memes and graphics they designed, and commentary that adds meaningful original value.
Posts copied or re-uploaded from another account, or reposted without meaningful transformation, will not qualify.
The change follows earlier updates to reduce payments to aggregator and clickbait-style accounts, which prompted backlash from some creators.
X executive Allegra Jacchia said the previous program’s incentives were “misaligned,” signaling a further shift in how the platform rewards creator activity.
