Renesas opens Beijing physical AI, robotics lab

Renesas Electronics, a Japan-headquartered semiconductor company, said on August 27 that it opened its Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing.

The facility will let customers demonstrate, validate, and jointly develop next-generation robotic systems as Renesas expands its physical AI efforts.

The company said the lab follows the creation of its Physical AI Division on July 1, 2026.

It will support hardware, software, AI modeling, control, power supply, sensing, and system-level verification for robotics and broader physical AI projects.

Ivo Marocco, vice president and head of UX at Renesas, said the company can currently address roughly 30% of a humanoid robot’s bill of materials and sees an opportunity to expand that coverage to 70%.
