Renault leads French robotic firm Wandercraft’s $69.4m series D
Paris-based robotics firm Wandercraft has raised €64.3 million (US$69.4 million) in its series D funding round.
The investment was led by Renault Group, Bpifrance, the European Investment Bank, and additional backers including Teampact Ventures and Quadrant Management.
The company plans to use the funds to expand its applications for consumers and industries.
Founded in 2012, Wandercraft specializes in self-balancing exoskeletons and humanoid robots. It aims to move from a primary focus on clinical uses to broader adoption in homes and workplaces.
The funding is expected to support further development and scaling of Wandercraft’s robotic solutions across various sectors.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ The three-phase evolution of exoskeleton companies: from clinic to consumer to commerce
Wandercraft’s journey reflects a pattern seen across the exoskeleton industry where companies typically evolve through three stages.
The company began with clinical applications (Atalante X now in 100+ hospitals), progressed to consumer products (Eve for home use by 2026), and is now entering industrial applications (Calvin-40 for factory floors), demonstrating how medical robotics expertise can be applied across multiple markets 1.
This transition aligns with the broader exoskeleton market trajectory, which is projected to grow from $0.56 billion in 2025 to $2.03 billion by 2030 at a 29.4% CAGR, driven by expanding use cases beyond healthcare 2.
CES 2025 highlighted this industry evolution with companies like Human in Motion Robotics and German Bionic showcasing exoskeletons spanning medical, consumer, and industrial applications 3.
The progression illustrates how companies often refine their technology in controlled medical environments before expanding to more dynamic consumer and industrial settings where regulations are less stringent but scalability becomes a key factor.
2️⃣ Strategic manufacturing partnerships as force multipliers for robotics startups
Renault’s investment in Wandercraft extends beyond typical venture funding by providing critical manufacturing expertise and a direct customer pathway.
The partnership aims to leverage Renault’s automotive “design-to-cost” expertise to scale production of Wandercraft’s robotics, potentially reducing manufacturing costs and accelerating market entry 4.
