X refuses to join ‘political’ French probe over bias

Social media platform X has accused French prosecutors of conducting an investigation that it claims threatens free speech.

The probe, led by Paris prosecutors, focuses on alleged algorithmic bias and fraudulent data extraction by X.

Police are examining potential misconduct by the company or its executives.

X claims the investigation is politically motivated and driven by lawmaker Eric Bothorel’s accusation of foreign interference, which the platform denies.

The company also raised concerns over a request for access to its algorithm and real-time user data, questioning the neutrality of researchers involved.

The case includes organized crime charges that may allow wiretapping, reflecting broader friction between tech firms and European regulators.
