Razorpay Curlec enables Apple Pay for Malaysian merchants

Razorpay Curlec, part of India’s Razorpay group, has launched Apple Pay support for Malaysian merchants to accept local and international card payments across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

The company said checkout complexity fuels high cart abandonment and shared company-provided data showing rates of 70.19% in 2025 vs. 69.99% in 2022.

Razorpay Curlec said the integration enables one-tap payments using Face ID or Touch ID and accepts Visa and Mastercard cards added to Apple Wallet.

Banks and payments providers supporting the rollout include AmBank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC, Maybank, RHB Bank Berhad, Standard Chartered Bank, and Wise Payments Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Apple Pay strengthens Razorpay Curlec as Malaysia’s fintech market settles

  • Razorpay Curlec in Malaysia has moved past only signing up merchants. It is wiring itself into day-to-day payments, including Apple Pay acceptance for Malaysian sellers, as the market matures 1.
  • After it bought Curlec in 2022, the company said its Malaysia merchant count grew from about 3,000 in October 2024 to more than 5,000 in 2025 1.
  • Razorpay often rolls out tools proven in India. It turned on Apple Pay for Indian businesses in September 2025, which reportedly raised cross-border conversion rates by up to 58% 2.
  • Apple Pay support helps it stand out against local rivals such as iPay88, plus global players like Stripe, in a market projected to reach USD 357.41 million by 2030 3.

Indian fintech expansion moves into a new stage

  • The rollout follows a common Indian tech pattern. Market leaders reuse established tech, including one-tap Apple Pay checkout using Face ID or Touch ID, to enter Southeast Asia where payments are several years behind India 4.
  • Razorpay set up in Malaysia first, then moved into Singapore 5.
  • Checkout expectations are converging across borders. Asia-Pacific cart abandonment hit as high as 87% in Q4 2024, so smoother payment options matter for merchants 2.
  • By tightening its core payments product, Razorpay Curlec can later add higher-margin services. This matches Razorpay’s “full-stack” model in India, which includes neobanking and lending 4.
