Rakuten posts first quarterly net income in 6 years
Rakuten Group said its Q2 FY2026 net income attributable to owners of the parent company was 7.7 billion yen (US$48.5 million), marking its first quarterly net profit in six years.
Revenue across its internet services, fintech, and mobile businesses rose 11.6% year on year to a record 665.5 billion yen (US$4.2 billion).
Non-GAAP operating income climbed 109.6% to 42 billion yen (US$265 million), while operating income under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) rose 126.9% to 20 billion yen (US$126 million).
EBITDA increased 11.7% to 115.3 billion yen (US$729 million), while the mobile segment’s non-GAAP operating loss narrowed to 33.1 billion yen (US$209 million).
This followed Q1, when the mobile segment’s revenue grew 18.5% year on year, subscriptions reached 10.36 million, and Rakuten posted quarterly pre-tax profit but still a net loss attributable to owners of the parent company.
Rakuten also said it raised about 200 billion yen (US$1.26 billion) in May by selling securities and fully redeemed its US dollar-denominated perpetual subordinated bonds in April and yen-denominated senior bonds in June.
The company said funding for all 2026 redemptions is secured.
