Rakuten expands autonomous delivery with advanced robots
Japan’s Rakuten Group will expand its autonomous delivery service on Feb. 27. The new service will feature advanced robots from US-based Avride and will extend coverage in Tokyo.
The service will now cover all of Harumi and parts of Tsukishima and Kachidoki, increasing delivery points to over 90.
Since its launch in November 2024, it has included stores like Starbucks Coffee Harumi Triton Square and Supermarket Bunkado Tsukishima.
Rakuten plans to deploy Avride’s robots in Japan for the first time, scaling up to a fleet of 10 while upgrading its delivery management system.
The robots meet Japan’s Robot Delivery Association safety standards.
Operating daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, the service charges a 100 yen (US$0.67) delivery fee and supports Rakuten-affiliated payment methods.
