Qualcomm, Wayve partner to roll out AI self-driving
Qualcomm and Wayve said they will combine Wayve’s AI Driver software with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride automotive chips and active safety software.
The goal is to help automakers rapidly deploy advanced driver-assistance and automated driving features.
Qualcomm said Snapdragon Ride provides high-performance, energy-efficient processing for vehicle AI while meeting safety standards.
Wayve, a UK self-driving startup, said its AI model uses real-world driving data to enable vehicles to learn driving behavior and adapt to different road conditions and regions without extensive rule-based programming.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Qualcomm’s automotive bet is already a near-billion-dollar quarterly business
- The Wayve tie-up builds on a multi-decade approach that already brings in meaningful revenue 1.
- Qualcomm’s automotive segment hit a record $984 million in Q3 FY 2025, up 21% year over year, and the company expects $1 billion the following quarter 2.
- Momentum comes from Snapdragon Digital Chassis, which has landed design wins for advanced driver-assistance and automated driving systems with BMW and General Motors 21.
- In 2022, the automotive design-win pipeline totaled $30 billion 3.
The partnership underscores the push toward pre-integrated ADAS and AD platforms
- Automakers are shifting away from buying separate components and toward integrated platforms, which can cut complexity and speed up development 4.
- Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. frames Snapdragon Ride (Qualcomm’s automotive chips) as an open platform, so automakers can pair choices such as Wayve’s AI Driver (Wayve’s automated-driving software) with Qualcomm’s Active Safety stack (its software for crash prevention features like automatic emergency braking) 4.
- Snapdragon Digital Chassis also lets customers bring their own partners, which supports branding and customization needs 1.
- Pre-integrating Wayve’s AI Driver with Snapdragon Ride, which combines system-on-chips (SoCs) with integrated Active Safety software, aims to simplify integration and speed rollout of hands-off assistance plus eyes-off features where regulations allow 4.
