Qualcomm jumps on report of OpenAI phone project

Qualcomm rose 8.2% on April 27 after analyst Kuo said OpenAI was working with Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Luxshare Precision on a smartphone project.

The report said Qualcomm and Taiwan chip designer MediaTek were developing smartphone processors.

Chinese electronics manufacturer Luxshare would handle system design and manufacturing before mass production in 2028.

Suppliers may be finalized by late 2026 or early 2027.

Luxshare shares rose as much as 10%, while Apple fell 2.2% and Qualcomm is still down about 7% this year ahead of results due on April 29.
