Qualcomm joins Korea AI program to scale startup pilots
Qualcomm Technologies has joined South Korea’s Everyone’s Challenge AX program, to work with local AI startups on proof of concept (PoC) projects.
The program links startup technology with products from large companies and supports proof of concept projects and market entry.
Qualcomm matched domestic collaborators Ujung System, P&C Solution, and XSLAB with startups on a one-to-one basis to develop projects covering AR glasses, robots, and on-premises appliances using its processors and NPU accelerator cards.
Selected startups can get PoC planning support and up to 100 million won (US$65,823) each in commercialization funding, and the program will also support technical collaboration and overseas expansion.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Qualcomm’s startup collaborations follow its effort to grow an edge AI developer platform
- The program extends Qualcomm’s work to pull together an edge AI development platform. It includes tools for building AI that runs on devices like robots, smart glasses, and on-premises appliances, plus developer software and community outreach 1.
- In the last two years, Qualcomm bought developer tool-maker Edge Impulse. It also announced a planned acquisition of open-source hardware/software platform Arduino, which has more than 33 million developers 2, 1.
- Qualcomm is also backing startups through its platform, including Arduino’s Dragonwing-powered UNO Q board. Support also covers the Arduino App Lab development environment with Edge Impulse integration 3.
Edge AI hinges on winning developer mindshare
- Qualcomm wants to gain from edge AI by moving past chips into a wider stack that includes software, services, and developer offerings 1.
- Through proof-of-concept funding in South Korea’s Everyone’s Challenge AX program, Qualcomm is placing its tech into the next wave of “physical AI.” This includes devices like robots and AR glasses that interact with the real world 3.
- The approach seeks to make Qualcomm’s silicon and software tooling a default option for teams building edge applications. That could help keep demand for its products steady over time 2.
