Qualcomm Technologies, the semiconductor arm of the US-based chip designer Qualcomm, said at Samsung Unpacked on July 23 that Snapdragon chips will power Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Watch Ultra2, and new eyewear.

For the foldable phones, the move appears to continue an existing arrangement rather than signal a sourcing change, as Samsung said the earlier Galaxy Z Fold7 was powered by a Snapdragon processor customized for Galaxy.

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon Wear Elite at Mobile World Congress 2026 as a smartwatch platform with on-device AI, higher performance, longer battery life, and stronger connectivity.

The eyewear push also expands Android XR, which Google said covers headsets and glasses through work with Samsung and Qualcomm, with audio glasses due this fall.

Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 is already used in Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, and glasses maker EssilorLuxottica said it sold more than 7 million AI glasses last year, suggesting demand is rising.
