Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said Intel’s current chip manufacturing technology is not advanced enough for Qualcomm to consider it as a supplier.

He added that Qualcomm would consider Intel if its production improves to deliver more efficient chips.

For now, Qualcomm will continue to use Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung Electronics Co. for its chip production.

Qualcomm designs chips for smartphones and other devices but outsources manufacturing.

Intel, which has historically led in chip production, is seeking new customers as it tries to recover from declining sales.

Earlier, Qualcomm announced a new self-driving system for BMW’s latest iX3 SUV.

The new Snapdragon Ride Pilot system is designed to handle a range of driving functions and balance high computing power with low energy use, according to Amon.
