PwC Singapore invests $3.1m in AI trade hub

PwC Singapore said on April 22 it will invest S$4 million (US$3.15 million) over three years to launch a Trade Advisory Hub in Singapore.

With support from the Singapore Economic Development Board, the firm said will advise local and multinational companies on changing trade rules, supply chains, and international expansion.

The hub will hire specialist talent and develop AI-powered tools for trade, supply chain, and tax advisory.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

PwC’s new trade hub builds on its regional base

  • PwC’s move expands work already underway in Asia Pacific, rather than starting from scratch, through its customs and trade advisory business 1.
  • Across Asia, PwC says its network includes more than 100 dedicated consultants. It also says the team includes customs specialists, former senior government officials, industry experts plus practitioners 1.
  • PwC says this group has guided Asia Pacific companies through global tariffs and supply chain disruption 2.
  • Singapore has long had demand for cross-border trade and tax advice. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), a Japanese banking group, previously hired in Singapore for a tax advisory role tied to cross-border matters. The work involved IE Singapore, now Enterprise Singapore, plus the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) 3.

The investment fits a wider shift toward forward-looking trade planning

  • Companies face changing trade rules while older customs systems are under pressure as ecommerce grows and supply chains spread across more places 4.
  • PwC Netherlands says technology in customs and international trade administration helps automate compliance and simplify workflows. It also improves risk management plus efficiency 5.
  • PwC US describes platforms that pull trade data into one place and use AI-driven analytics plus automation to support earlier action, including help with margin protection 6.
  • The same approach now reaches rules that link trade with sustainability goals, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a policy that puts a carbon price on certain imported goods 5.
